RASC News Agency: Reports from Laghman province reveal that the Taliban have detained a former government commander without presenting any clear justification. The commander, identified as Abdul Rashid, was apprehended in Dawlat Shah district and taken to an undisclosed location. Abdul Rashid previously served as the local police commander in Dawlat Shah district under the former Afghanistan Republic. Sources confirm that the Taliban’s intelligence unit arrested him on Saturday, November 16, in Farshghan Valley.
According to insiders, the Taliban accuse Rashid of orchestrating activities against their regime and maintaining ties with the National Resistance Front of Afghanistan (NRF). Additionally, he is alleged to have been involved in the killings of Taliban members in the provincial center of Laghman and Alishing district. Community elders have intervened, appealing to the Taliban’s intelligence authorities for Abdul Rashid’s release. However, their efforts have so far been unsuccessful, and he remains in custody. Taliban officials in Laghman have not issued any statements regarding the detention.
This incident adds to a pattern of arrests targeting former government officials. The Taliban have repeatedly detained and allegedly tortured individuals associated with the previous administration, often under ambiguous allegations. Last week, three former soldiers were arrested by Taliban intelligence in Dawlat Shah and Alishing districts, also accused of links to the NRF. These detainees remain imprisoned without trial or due process. Despite the Taliban’s leader announcing a general amnesty following their ascent to power, former officials and soldiers continue to face arrests, arbitrary detentions, and, in some cases, unexplained deaths under suspicious circumstances.
