RASC News Agency: During a recent meeting in Kabul, representatives from Norway and Indonesia announced their joint commitment to supporting vocational and technical education programs for people with disabilities in Afghanistan. Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, the head of the Norwegian Committee in Afghanistan highlighted that the gathering allowed for direct collaboration between Norwegian and Indonesian representatives focused on improving education and empowerment opportunities for Afghanistan’s disabled community.
He underscored the significance of this initiative, stressing the urgent need to address the educational gaps facing disabled individuals in Afghanistan. Both parties, he noted, pledged to enhance access to education and to create employment opportunities specifically tailored for disabled Afghanistanis. The meeting convened a diverse group, including professors from universities in Norway and Indonesia, researchers, representatives from international organizations, and local Afghanistan institutions.
Mr. Dahl emphasized that individuals with disabilities in Afghanistan often suffer from social isolation and urged that global action is required to eliminate the discrimination and exclusion they face. Participants also stressed the importance of integrating disabled individuals into development projects, with a focus on ensuring they play an active role in every phase from project planning and design to implementation and evaluation.
It is worth noting that decades of conflict and insecurity have left hundreds of thousands of Afghanistanis disabled. Many lost limbs and suffered severe injuries in Taliban attacks against foreign forces and the former Afghanistan government, leaving them with enduring physical and societal challenges.
