RASC News Agency: Local sources in Ghazni report that the Taliban publicly flogged two individuals accused of “immoral behavior” and theft within the province. In a statement from the Taliban-controlled Supreme Court, it was confirmed that each of these individuals received 39 lashes on Wednesday, October 30. Additionally, the statement details that the person accused of “immoral behavior” has been sentenced to eight months in prison, while the individual accused of theft faces a two-year prison sentence.
Local sources allege that these individuals were subjected to flogging based on forced confessions, with the punishment carried out in Ghazni’s Muqur district. Meanwhile, in Kandahar, sources report that five individuals have been detained on charges of “illicit relationships.” The Department for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice in Dand district has reportedly arrested five people, including a woman, for alleged “immoral conduct and spreading social corruption.”
The Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice stated that, following investigations, the case files have been forwarded to the appropriate authorities. According to reports, one of the detainees has already faced flogging. In the past month, the Taliban have reportedly carried out public floggings of more than 80 individuals, including women, across various provinces on multiple charges.
This surge in public corporal punishment has sparked international condemnation. The United Nations Human Rights Council recently condemned these actions, calling for an immediate cessation. Amnesty International has also voiced grave concerns, emphasizing the absence of fair judicial processes in Taliban courts and raising alarm over the escalating human rights abuses.
