RASC News Agency: As concerns about the dire situation of earthquake victims in Herat province grow and winter approaches, the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) has announced that it has provided assistance in the form of a thousand winter tents for the earthquake-affected people in Herat. According to a report published by the Turkish news agency Anadolu on Monday, November 13th, these thousand tents donated by TIKA have been handed over to the authorities of the Taliban group in the province.
As reported by the Turkish news agency, Arafat Deniz, the head of TIKA’s office in Herat province, stated that these thousand donated tents were allocated for the residents of the villages in the Zindajan district of this province, which was identified as the epicenter of the earthquake.
Furthermore, Arafat Deniz added, “We prioritized the provision of tents for the families who, with the arrival of colder weather, have to live on the streets without shelter and lack access to decent living facilities.”
It should be noted that last month, Herat province experienced a severe earthquake, followed by aftershocks, resulting in a considerable number of casualties, injuries, and displacement of the province’s residents.
Additionally, according to information available, the recent earthquakes in Herat province have completely devastated more than ten villages and left a significant number of people homeless. While Turkey announces these aid provisions, it is worth mentioning that earlier the United Nations stated in a report that despite over a month passing since the Herat earthquake, a number of affected individuals still do not have access to suitable shelter and clean drinking water.
