RASC News Agency: The Taliban’s Supreme Court has reported that its forces publicly flogged a woman and three men in Parwan province. On Monday, October 28, the Supreme Court issued a statement indicating that Taliban forces had administered lashes to a woman and a man on charges of elopement, and to two other men on charges of sodomy, in a public setting within Parwan province.
The statement detailed that the local Taliban court sentenced two of the individuals to six months’ imprisonment and 39 lashes, while the remaining two were handed one-year prison terms and 39 lashes each. The sentences were carried out before judicial, administrative, and military officials, as well as local residents, in the courtyard of the Parwan provincial court. The Taliban’s Supreme Court emphasized that these sentences were executed following an exhaustive review of the cases.
However, many Afghanistani citizens contend that the Taliban administer these punishments arbitrarily and through coercion. According to these sources, the Taliban frequently impose sentences without sufficient evidence, relying on forced confessions as a basis for their judgments. It is also noteworthy that the Taliban’s Supreme Court recently announced that forces had publicly flogged a man in Dawlatabad district, Faryab province, on charges of adultery.
Despite extensive national and international condemnation, the Taliban continue to conduct summary trials and public corporal punishment of men and women across Afghanistan for a range of alleged offenses.
