RASC News Agency: Local sources in Takhar report that officials from the Taliban’s “Propagation of Virtue and Prevention of Vice” division stormed a wedding hall, disrupting the event due to the presence of music, and subsequently detained the hall’s manager. This incident reportedly occurred on Sunday, October 27, within Taloqan’s First Security District, the capital of Takhar province.
According to sources, the raid forced wedding guests to leave the hall. Taliban authorities fined the manager 100,000 kabuli rupees for playing music a fine he reportedly refused to pay. The manager remains in Taliban custody, and officials in Takhar have yet to comment on the matter. Since their return to power, the Taliban have strictly prohibited music, labeling it “Haram” (forbidden). Approximately two weeks ago, they also detained five young men in Takhar for playing music at a gathering.
This ongoing suppression of public celebrations contrasts with allegations that Taliban members themselves engage in similar activities privately. Leaked videos showing Taliban members participating in music and dance have circulated in the media, sparking criticism of a perceived double standard. Many argue that the Taliban’s enforcement of “Islamic law” is targeted solely at Afghanistani citizens, while Taliban members themselves appear to disregard these same prohibitions.
