RASC News Agency: Reports from Takhar province reveal that the Taliban publicly flogged a man and a woman in full view of the public. This act has been confirmed by the Taliban’s Supreme Court, which issued a statement affirming the execution of the punishment. The court’s ruling, made by the district court of Farkhar, convicted both individuals of adultery (zina), sentencing them each to 39 lashes. According to sources, the punishment was carried out on Sunday, October 20.
In a separate incident, the Supreme Court of the Taliban announced that a woman and a man in Kharwar district, Logar province, were found guilty of an illicit relationship and sentenced to four months of imprisonment and between 35 to 39 lashes. This sentence was carried out several days earlier. Since reclaiming control of Afghanistan, the Taliban have reinstated public corporal punishments, continuously emphasizing their enforcement as part of their interpretation of Sharia law.
International human rights organizations have consistently condemned these punishments, arguing that they contravene international law and human dignity. They have called for an end to such practices. Nevertheless, the Taliban persist in their claim that they are upholding Sharia law and have vowed to continue these measures. Since their return to power, the Taliban have publicly flogged hundreds of individuals, including women, and incarcerated many. In their latest decree, the Taliban reaffirmed their commitment to corporal punishment, making it clear that public floggings will remain a key aspect of their rule.
