RASC News Agency: The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has announced its initiative to construct and supply educational equipment for 165 schools in Nangarhar province. According to UNICEF, this educational assistance will include classroom supplies, handwashing facilities for students, and the installation of solar power systems. The funding for these supplies has reportedly been provided by the government of Japan. UNICEF’s commitment to equipping schools in Afghanistan comes at a time when the Taliban has imposed a ban on girls above the sixth grade from continuing their education and attending universities for nearly three years.
This policy of the Taliban against women and girls has provoked significant global backlash, particularly from Islamic nations; however, the Taliban has yet to amend this stance. While these resources are being allocated to schools in Afghanistan, the Taliban has effectively barred millions of Afghanistani girls from access to education and universities.
Moreover, reports indicate that UNICEF’s assistance to the Taliban regime may inadvertently support jihadist schools and foster religious and ethnic extremism in Afghanistan. It is alleged that the Taliban channels these funds into religious institutions and obstructs any international organizations from monitoring how the money is utilized. Despite being aware of these issues, international organizations continue to provide funding to the Taliban under various pretexts.
