RASC News Agency: The World Health Organization has announced that the Salman Charity Center, funded by King Salman of Saudi Arabia, is poised to contribute $1.1 million to bolster maternal and child health in Bamyan Province. According to a statement released by the World Health Organization on Wednesday, Mar 6, this assistance is intended to be channeled through the Islamic Development Bank and the Islamic Cooperation Organization.

The World Health Organization statement highlighted that this aid supports ongoing efforts to prevent avoidable deaths among pregnant women, children, and adolescents in Afghanistan. Afghanistan has one of the highest rates of maternal mortality in the region, as stated by the World Health Organization. The funds from the Salman Charity Center will fortify the capacity of three hospitals in Bamyan and provide maternal and child health services in these hospitals.

The World Health Organization further added in its statement that this assistance aims to benefit 134,876 individuals, including 52,870 pregnant and postpartum women, and more than 63,000 children under the age of five. This assistance comes at a time when Afghanistan’s healthcare system has encountered resource shortages after the Taliban’s takeover and the cessation of international aid, as the system heavily relied on external assistance.
