RASC News Agency: Local sources in Herat have reported that the Taliban have instructed students at a high school in Guzara district, as well as several other high schools in the province, to cover their heads and shave their hair. On Monday, September 9, sources revealed that the Taliban had imposed strict rules on students at “Wazir Fateh Khan” High School, mandating them to shave their heads and wear hats. These regulations have been enforced as compulsory.
According to the sources, the Taliban have warned the students that non-compliance with this order will result in severe consequences. In response, many families of the students have criticized this directive, calling it an intrusion into personal liberties, and accusing the Taliban of turning schools into religious Madrassas. To date, local Taliban officials in Herat have not commented on these reports. Previously, the Taliban issued official decrees requiring government employees to grow beards and wear hats.
In truth, the Taliban are not only transforming high schools into Madrassas but are also seeking to remake society in the same manner. They are gradually banning anything that is not permitted in Madrassas environments across the country. Analysts believe that this “Madrassa-ization” of society will extinguish cultural and social diversity, replacing it with a regressive and primitive culture. Many of the Taliban’s edicts and laws are rooted in tribal customs prevalent in the southern regions of Afghanistan, but they impose these tribal laws on the entire population under the guise of Islam and Sharia law.
