RASC News Agency: Flood victims in the Pitab Mirshadi-Beyk area of Behsud district, Maidan Wardak, report that more than a week has passed since the floods, yet they have received no assistance. Neither aid organizations nor the Taliban have extended support to the victims of this district. However, the Taliban previously provided aid to Nangarhar, where the flood-affected area was predominantly Pashtun. Reports indicate that the Taliban responded swiftly to assist them. This conduct by the Taliban appears to discriminate against Afghanistan’s diverse ethnic groups, marginalizing other ethnicities.
Several civil society activists have responded to this discriminatory behavior, accusing the Taliban of ethnic favoritism. They assert that ethnic discrimination in Afghanistan is a profound affliction that plagues the Taliban. These activists have condemned the Taliban’s actions as unjust, emphasizing that differentiating between Afghanistan’s ethnic groups is a pernicious disease. The fact that the Taliban provide aid to the Pashtuns while refusing to assist the Hazaras is a clear manifestation of their entanglement in ethnic bias.
The Pitab region endured a devastating flood on August 17. One of the area’s residents informed RASC that hundreds of acres of agricultural land, transportation routes, and water springs were destroyed by the flood. He added that the annual livelihood of more than 100 households has been wiped out by the disaster. According to him, the people are in urgent need of immediate relief, including food supplies and the reconstruction of drinking water channels and roads.
At present, residents of some villages are compelled to walk several kilometers to access water. The inhabitants of Pitab Mirshadi-Beyk area are urgently appealing for assistance from aid organizations.
