RASC News Agency: Local sources from Maimana, the capital of Faryab province, report that Taliban forces in this city shot and injured a person at a checkpoint. Sources informed the media on Monday, July 8, that the incident occurred on the previous evening on “Turbat Jan Baba” road in Maimana, Faryab province.
According to the sources, the injured individual is Abdul Qudus, the brother of Mohammad Nasim Lafraei, the head of the Money Exchangers’ Union of Faryab province. Reportedly, Abdul Qudus was wounded in the leg by gunfire from Taliban forces. However, Abdullah Moradi, a spokesperson for the Taliban police, described the incident as accidental. Moradi stated that a vehicle disregarded the checkpoint, prompting the Taliban forces to fire warning shots. Unfortunately, a bullet accidentally struck the brother of the union chief.
This incident is not isolated; similar events have occurred in several provinces, where Taliban members have shot at citizens for failing to stop at checkpoints, sometimes resulting in fatalities. It is noteworthy that in many cases, Taliban forces have specifically targeted non-Pashtun youths at checkpoints, often disguising these incidents as traffic accidents.
Throughout nearly three years of their rule, the Taliban have been accused of discriminatory practices and violating the rights of various ethnic groups in Afghanistan.
