Taliban Shut Down Several Currency Exchange Shops in Kandahar

RASC News Agency: Sources from Kandahar province report that the Taliban have recently shut down several currency exchange shops in the Spin Boldak district due to the lack of proper licenses. Sources have informed the media that this action, which occurred on Monday, July 8, has led to dissatisfaction among the money exchangers, prompting approximately 400 of them to close their shops in protest.

According to these sources, the currency exchange market in this district of Kandahar province has been completely closed following the Taliban’s actions. The Taliban reportedly entered the shops with weapons and threatened the people. Meanwhile, some shopkeepers in this market have told the media that the Taliban have made the licensing conditions difficult, making it impossible for them to obtain the necessary licenses.

They added that the Taliban’s central bank has set a high cost for obtaining a license. They expressed concern that if these conditions continue, they will be forced to leave the currency exchange business, resulting in thousands of people becoming unemployed. Local Taliban officials have not yet commented on this matter. It should be noted that the extortionate actions of the Taliban against citizens are not a new phenomenon.
