RASC News Agency: The Taliban’s Supreme Court has announced that the group recently flogged an individual in public in Malistan district of Ghazni province on charges of “adultery.” According to a statement released by the Taliban’s court, this individual was punished today, Sunday, June 30, based on the ruling of the group’s primary court in Malistan district.

The statement from the Taliban’s Supreme Court detailed that, in addition to receiving 39 lashes, the individual was sentenced to five years of imprisonment. The flogging was carried out following the confirmation of the sentence by the Taliban’s appellate court in Ghazni and their Supreme Court in Kabul.

Since regaining control of Afghanistan, the Taliban have repeatedly flogged accused individuals in public and executed five people in various provinces. The Taliban’s practice of public corporal punishment has drawn widespread condemnation. Human rights organizations have denounced such executions and corporal punishment as violations of international laws and human dignity, calling for an immediate halt to these practices.

Afghanistan is a signatory to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and the Convention Against Torture, which prohibit cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment or punishment. Furthermore, United Nations human rights researchers and experts recently urged the Taliban to cease the practice of public executions and floggings.
