RASC News Agency: Reports from western Afghanistan reveal that a substantial percentage of Taliban members are addicted to tobacco and drugs. A local source in Badghis Province, speaking on condition of anonymity, told RASC News Agency on Tuesday, May 28th, that Taliban members in this region, from the governor to ordinary fighters, are secretly using cigarettes, snuff, hashish, and other narcotics.
The source added that compared to cigarettes and hashish, Taliban members show a stronger preference for snuff, which is used daily by the group’s forces. The source further explained that the prevalent use of snuff in Taliban offices reflects a significant lack of cleanliness and order among their members.
Another anonymous source from Herat Province informed RASC News Agency that even the youngest Taliban members in this province use snuff. This source elaborated, “Taliban officials manage legal procedures efficiently when they have access to snuff and other drugs, but when these substances are unavailable, delays in handling public affairs increase significantly.”
Habib Rahmani, a civil activist in Farah Province, told RASC News Agency that the Taliban lack an understanding of civic etiquette and fail to adhere to any principles of public administration. Rahmani explained that many Taliban members come from rural areas and are unfamiliar with urban culture. He emphasized that the use of snuff and other drugs by the Taliban is prohibited in Islam, yet it has become a daily norm for them.
Despite numerous attempts, we were unable to obtain comments from Taliban officials. It is reported that Taliban forces frequently use snuff and other drugs during military operations. According to experts, the use of these substances can calm the mind and enhance motivation among the fighters.
