RASC News Agency: Farmers in Herat province, western Afghanistan, report a 30% increase in saffron sales compared to last year. Gul Ahmad, a farmer from Herat, told RASC News Agency on Friday, May 17, that this year’s saffron harvests have been particularly successful, yielding favorable results for the local agricultural community.
He attributed the increase in saffron sales to a robust global market, which has positively impacted Afghanistan’s saffron industry. Ahmad emphasized that Afghanistan saffron, often referred to as “red gold,” has garnered significant international attention. Nasir, another farmer from Herat, added that saffron from this province holds a superior position compared to other regions in Afghanistan.
He noted that while Afghanistan saffron is sold globally every year, the industry occasionally faces sales challenges. Nasir mentioned that farmers in Herat generally express greater satisfaction with saffron cultivation and sales compared to other agricultural products. Sabor, a saffron vendor in Herat, stated that public awareness of Afghanistan saffron has increased significantly.
He explained that more families are now using saffron, with some in Herat even preferring it over black and green tea. Sabor added that saffron’s numerous health benefits have attracted many domestic and international customers. Taliban agricultural officials in Herat province have not commented on this news.
It is worth noting that most saffron cultivation and harvesting in Herat occurs in the districts of Pashtun Zarghun, Ghorian, and Obe.
