RASC News Agency: Amnesty International has announced that Ahmad Fahim Azimi, an advocate for girls’ education in Afghanistan, has been sentenced to one year in prison by the Taliban. In a statement released on Tuesday night, May 14th, Amnesty International described the Taliban’s ruling as “unjust” and contrary to international human rights laws.
The statement from Amnesty International calls on the Taliban to release Mr. Azimi unconditionally from prison. The Taliban arrested Ahmad Faheem Azimi along with his colleague Sediqullah Afghan, who was recently released, on October 17, 2023, in Kabul. The international organization added that these two education rights activists were associated with the educational institution “Better Idea” and were accused by the Taliban of activities against their regime.
United Nations experts also issued a statement a few days ago, urging the Taliban to immediately release Ahmad Fahim Azimi from prison. On April 22, they noted that Azimi has been detained by the Taliban for six months, and according to UN experts, his arrest has no justification.
