Unidentified Respiratory Illness Affects 120 Women and Children in Badakhshan

RASC News Agency: Local sources in Badakhshan province report the spread of an unidentified respiratory illness among children and women. Local sources confirmed today, Saturday, April 27, that the unknown respiratory illness has been on the rise for the past three days in Khwahan district, affecting 120 children and women.

The source from Khwahan added that among the patients, 80 are children and 60 are women. A doctor from the Khwahan district health center told the media that over 50 children are currently hospitalized and receiving treatment. He noted that symptoms such as severe coughing and chest pain are indicators of the illness.

Residents of Badakhshan attribute the spread of the illness to the lack of access to healthcare services in Khwahan district. They added that in remote areas of Badakhshan, healthcare facilities are scarce, and Taliban officials in Badakhshan province are more focused on exploiting mineral resources than serving the population.

Previously, in Badakhshan province, 21 people died from a respiratory illness. In recent days, an unknown skin disease has also been spreading among adults and children in Bamyan and Paktika provinces.
