Taliban Whipped Two People in Kapisa

RASC News Agency: The Taliban’s Supreme Court announced that, as part of their ongoing public punishment of suspects, the group recently whipped two individuals accused of theft in Kapisa province in front of a public audience. According to a statement released by the Taliban’s Supreme Court on Tuesday, April 23, these two suspects were punished the previous day.

The statement from the Taliban specifies that one individual was sentenced to three years of imprisonment, while the other received a sentence of one year and six months from the Kapisa Provincial Primary Court. According to the statement, Abdul Raoof Saadat, head of the Taliban’s Provincial Court in Kapisa, said, “We are not afraid to execute the sentences mandated by Islamic Sharia and will fearlessly implement the prescribed punishments for criminals.”

The Taliban’s Supreme Court did not provide further details regarding the identities of the suspects. This follows a similar incident on Saturday when the court publicly whipped an individual in Zabul province for engaging in extramarital sexual relations. Although the international community and human rights advocates have repeatedly called on the Taliban to cease corporal punishment of suspects, the group continues to publicly and physically punish accused individuals.
