Civil Activist and His Son Arrested in Helmand

RASC News Agency: According to local sources in Helmand province, a civil activist named Abdul Ghaffar and his son Rafiullah were recently arrested by the Taliban. Sources told the media on Tuesday, April 23, that the Taliban arrested Abdul Ghaffar three days earlier from the eighth district of Lashkar Gah, the capital of Helmand, and transported him to an unknown location.

According to sources, the civil activist had previously been involved in political activities opposing the Taliban, and the group has yet to comment on the matter. The Taliban’s arrest of citizens, particularly civil society and education activists, is not new, as the group has consistently targeted political activists and dissenters.

In over two years of Taliban rule, international human rights organizations have repeatedly accused the group of widespread human rights violations in the country, with the Taliban answering to no authority.

Under the Taliban’s rule in Afghanistan, freedom of expression, individual rights, and social liberties have been severely restricted, and throughout their rule, the Taliban have persistently sought to impose their policies on the population.
