RASC News Agency: The network of the Bosnian State Investigation and Protection Department has reported the arrest of four individuals from Afghanistan in Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia. These arrests were conducted on charges of kidnapping three foreign citizens. On Saturday, January 20th, the Corruption and Organized Crime Reporting Project released a report unveiling that the defendants had abducted individuals from Iran and Switzerland, subsequently demanding a ransom for their release.
The report specifies that the defendants requested €18,000 (equivalent to $19,556) in exchange for the liberation of the kidnapped individuals. After receiving the stipulated amount, the defendants released the victims to an undisclosed location outside of Bosnia. Bosnian authorities have detained individuals suspected of collaborating with Serbia, Switzerland, and international law enforcement agencies.
There exists a possibility that one of the detained suspects might be implicated in the murder of a migrant who was fatally stabbed in a temporary reception center for migrants in the western part of the country on December 31st of the preceding year. According to the United Nations Office for Refugees, approximately 35,000 migrants entered Bosnia in 2023. It is crucial to recognize that Afghanistan is a nation whose people have dispersed to various countries globally due to decades of conflicts and enduring social, economic, and political crises.
