RASC News Agency: Local sources from Herat province in western Afghanistan report that the day before, an individual was brutally murdered by the Taliban. The source, who wished to remain anonymous, told RASC News Agency on Sunday, April 21st, that the victim had just been released from the central prison in the province two days earlier and was violently killed by the Taliban with 30 shots.
According to the source, there is a special network within the Taliban that targets individuals for assassination after their release from prison. They have brutally killed dozens, if not hundreds, of young people. The source believes this network within the Taliban operates mostly within the group’s intelligence branch due to the need to conceal their identities. Meanwhile, other sources report that the Taliban have killed several inmates inside the prison under various pretexts, often blaming another inmate for the killings and telling families that the deceased committed suicide due to mental health issues.
The source added that these reports have caused uproar within the Taliban’s central prison in Herat province, and the group’s authorities have claimed ignorance of the matter. According to the source, the targeted assassinations carried out by the Taliban against released inmates are intentional and may have other underlying motives. Given these actions, Omid Haqjozada, a political analyst in Afghanistan, told RASC News Agency that all terrorist attacks occurring within Afghanistan can be traced back to the Taliban.
He added that the Taliban falsely accuse ISIS and other similar groups of causing insecurity in an attempt to prove to the world that they are a better option than other terrorist groups in Afghanistan. He believes Afghanistan is becoming a battlefield for countries and factions that see the Afghanistani people as mere pawns in their political games. Haqjozada further noted that currently, countries with the strongest economies wield the most power in the world.
Similarly, Akbar Balali, a civil society activist in Herat province, told RASC News Agency that for the Taliban, nothing is more important than their own ethnic interests and self-serving objectives. He added that the internal situation in Afghanistan is worse than in Palestine and Ukraine, and the people are silently losing their lives without justice.
On the other hand, Faiz Ahmad Barati, an expert in Afghanistani affairs, told RASC News Agency that internal tensions within the Taliban are escalating, and members of the group are worsening an already precarious situation. He emphasized that the Taliban lack proper knowledge and education and act impulsively, causing dire consequences for Afghanistan’s future.
Despite our best efforts, we were unable to obtain comments from the Taliban authorities in Herat province on these issues.
