RASC News Agency: The Russian embassy recently announced the construction of a border outpost on the Tajikistan-Afghanistan border by Moscow. In a statement, the Russian authorities revealed that this border outpost will be named in honor of the 25 Russian border guards who tragically lost their lives in a terrorist attack back in 1993.
Semen Grigoriev, the Russian ambassador to Tajikistan, emphasized the significance of this border outpost in safeguarding the strategic border between Tajikistan and Afghanistan. During his visit to 12 well-secured border checkpoints, Ambassador Grigoriev underscored the fact that Tajikistan shares the longest border with Afghanistan, thus playing a crucial role in the security architecture of Central Asia.
This development comes at a time when Russia, in conjunction with various regional and global powers, has expressed deep concerns regarding the security threats emanating from Taliban-controlled Afghanistan. Consequently, Tajikistan, being a neighboring country, has bolstered its border outposts to a total of ten following the Taliban’s ascension to power.
Furthermore, during a recent meeting known as the Moscow Format, Tajikistan reiterated its skepticism regarding the Taliban’s purported efforts in combatting terrorism and drug trafficking. Multiple reports and statements from international organizations and countries worldwide indicate that terror groups, most notably ISIS and the Al-Qaeda network, have established a pervasive presence and are actively operating in Afghanistan under Taliban rule.
It is worth noting that the United Nations had previously reported that terrorist organizations, including ISIS, continue to regroup and engage in activities within Afghanistan under Taliban control. Despite this, the Taliban has categorically denied these allegations on numerous occasions.
