RASC News Agency: Special Inspector John Sopko, appointed by the United States of America for aid assistance, contends that funds from this country end up in the hands of the Taliban terrorist group in Afghanistan.
In a discussion with an international media outlet on Wednesday, Mar 20, the Special Inspector for US aid criticized the aid transfer system to the United Nations in Afghanistan, asserting that the Taliban exploit this system. John Sopko, the Special Inspector from the United States of America, underscores that cash aid originates from American donors’ pockets and funnels into the hands of a terrorist group.
Reports indicate that the United Nations has refuted the accusations made by the Special Inspector, asserting that cash flows to the central bank of Afghanistan, which is under Taliban control, and the United Nations cannot sever ties with the central bank. Nevertheless, Mr. Sopko adds that US aid to Afghanistan has totaled $2.9 billion since the Taliban’s return to power in the country.
The US Department of State has affirmed that the country continues its humanitarian aid efforts to Afghanistan and endeavors to ensure that the Taliban do not directly benefit from these funds.
