RASC News Agency: International Amnesty, coinciding with the reopening of girls’ schools in Afghanistan, addressed the Taliban group, asserting that their rationales for prohibiting girls’ education amount to “hollow pretexts for further discrimination in Afghanistan.” International Amnesty raised this concern on Wednesday, Mar 20, in a message on the social media platform X, emphasizing the immediate need for reopening girls’ schools in Afghanistan.
The organization urged the Taliban to abstain from employing “hollow pretexts” to prolong the ban on girls’ education. International Amnesty also disclosed that they queried Afghanistani girls regarding the prohibition of education beyond the sixth grade, with one girl lamenting, “Her dreams have been shattered.” Another student conveyed to the organization, “She has lost all her hopes.”
This situation arises as the Taliban group, upon seizing control of the country, proscribed girls above the sixth grade from attending schools and universities, citing adverse conditions. Certain Taliban officials, concerning the reopening of schools and universities to girls, have persistently deferred it to the future without furnishing any compelling rationale.
Meanwhile, critics interpret the denial of girls’ education as part of the Taliban’s strategy to marginalize women and severely curtail their rights.
