RASC News Agency: The official website of the U.S. House Committee on Foreign Affairs reported on Tuesday, September 10, that a resolution Resolution No. 1433 designating the Taliban as a terrorist organization has been passed. This resolution, introduced by the Committee, firmly declares that the Taliban constitutes a terrorist group and lends its support to the Vienna conference as a legitimate opposition platform against the Taliban regime. Timothy Burchett, Vice Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, made the announcement regarding the resolution’s passage.
Burchett highlighted that since the Taliban’s reassertion of control over Afghanistan, the group has consistently violated international standards, systematically infringing upon the basic rights of the Afghanistani people. The Taliban have perpetrated systematic violence, repression, and acts of terror across the nation. The resolution further underscores that the Taliban has harbored other terrorist organizations, thereby posing an escalating threat to both regional and global security. Burchett stated, “The suppression of free speech, the persecution of women and girls, and the targeting of religious minorities are all clear hallmarks of a terrorist organization.”
The U.S. House of Representatives stressed the necessity of curbing the Taliban’s influence, asserting that the United States must stand in defense of human rights and support the establishment of a democratic system in Afghanistan. It called for official recognition of the resistance efforts opposing the Taliban. Additionally, the resolution emphasized the establishment of a political dialogue platform in Vienna, Austria, which represents a beacon of hope for all Afghanistani citizens. This conference, which brings together representatives from every stratum of Afghanistani society, has been urged to receive full support from Washington.
It is noteworthy that the Vienna conference, organized by the Austrian Institute for International Affairs, has facilitated several key meetings with prominent figures opposing the Taliban. Participants of the conference have consistently advocated for both political and military efforts in resistance to the Taliban’s regime.
