Taliban Fighter in Badakhshan Kills Woman for Rejecting Marriage Proposal

RASC News Agency: Local sources in Badakhshan report that a Taliban fighter murdered a woman after she rejected his marriage proposal. Sources confirmed on Tuesday, October 8, that the woman had been abducted approximately a week ago, and her body was discovered near her home in the Jurm district of Badakhshan the previous day. The 37-year-old woman had declined the Taliban member’s proposal. It is notable that she had lost her previous husband about three years ago. According to the sources, she was employed as a service worker at a clinic in the Jurm district.

Taliban officials in Badakhshan have also confirmed the killing, stating that a suspect has been arrested in connection with the incident. However, it remains unclear whether the arrested individual is a Taliban member or an innocent person. A few months ago, a similar incident occurred in the Almar district of Faryab, where a Taliban fighter shot and killed a young girl for rejecting a marriage proposal. This is neither the first nor the last time Taliban members have executed women or girls for refusing to marry men associated with the group.

Reports suggest that, in some cases, a Taliban fighter may go so far as to murder the family members of a girl to force her into marriage. Over the past three years, many Taliban members have engaged in multiple marriages, with some leaders reportedly having taken up to four wives, the maximum permitted under their interpretation of Islamic law.
