RASC News Agency: Sanni Grahn-Laasonen, the Finnish Minister of Social Security, recently asserted that girls and children in Afghanistan, akin to children worldwide, merit quality education. As per a communication disseminated by the Permanent Mission of Finland to the United Nations on Wednesday night, Mar 13, on the social media platform X, Grahn-Laasonen took part in the 68th session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women.
Throughout this session, she underscored the imperative nature of the right to education for forthcoming generations of Afghanistani girls under Taliban governance. The United Nations Commission on the Status of Women convened a session to address “crimes against humanity” in Afghanistan on Tuesday, Mar 12, on the periphery of its 68th session.
In a declaration by the United Nations, this session issued an urgent appeal for concerted global efforts to designate “gender apartheid” as a crime against humanity within the framework of international law. Beneath Taliban governance in Afghanistan, girls are deprived of education beyond the sixth grade, their freedom of movement is curtailed, and they are denied authorization to work in both governmental and non-governmental entities.
