RASC News Agency: According to local sources in Paktia province, an explosion of unexploded ordnance from previous wars in the region has resulted in the loss of two children’s lives and injuries to four others. Sources informed the media on Sunday, Mar 3, that this incident occurred yesterday in the Janikhel district of Paktia province.

Based on information provided by sources, all the victims of this incident belong to a single family. The explosion took place as the children brought unexploded ordnance into their home and engaged in innocent play. The Taliban group has also confirmed the occurrence of this incident. This follows previous explosions caused by leftover unexploded ordnance from the war, resulting in casualties and injuries.

It is worth noting that over the past few decades, thousands of mines have been laid in various regions of Afghanistan during internal and proxy conflicts, leading to a significant presence of unexploded ordnance across the country.

Mine-laying and the use of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) have been primary tactics employed by the Taliban as the main belligerent force over the past two decades. Taliban authorities have even commended their members for their proficiency in mine-laying, considering it a commendable skill.

Previously, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OCHA) declared Afghanistan as the most contaminated country globally in terms of the prevalence and distribution of explosive materials.
