RASC News Agency: The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights recently stated that public executions constitute a “cruel and inhumane” form of punishment, urging the Taliban to immediately halt this practice. Jeremy Laurence, spokesperson for this office, stated in a released statement that the news of the execution of three individuals in sports stadiums in Afghanistan under Taliban rule in recent days has “horrified” him.
According to the statement, he denounced the Taliban’s method of executing these suspects as shooting them with multiple bullets in the presence of the group’s authorities and the public. This comes as the Taliban have increased the use of desert executions for suspects in recent days despite widespread domestic and international criticism, defending their actions.
In the latest incident, the Taliban whipped eight individuals in Herat Province on charges of adultery and dishonor, sentencing them to prison. It is noteworthy that since the Taliban took control of the country, they have executed five individuals in Laghman, Farah, Ghazni, and Jowzjan provinces based on their leader’s orders.
