RASC News Agency: For 20 Afghanistani female medical students, scholarships are being granted in Scotland, where they are expected to complete their medical studies at Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh, Glasgow, and St. Andrews medical schools. According to information released to the media on Saturday, Feb 24, the Daily Recode newspaper reported that Britain and Scotland have reached an agreement to grant visas to these women, who have been deprived of continuing their education in Afghanistan, to complete their studies in Scotland.
The report states that these women may need to travel to Pakistan to the British embassy abroad to obtain their student visas. Regarding the scholarships for these women, it is mentioned that they will be treated like domestic Scottish students, meaning they do not need to pay tuition fees. The educational opportunity for these women is provided by the Linda Norgrove Foundation, a charity organization, and John Norgrove of this charity stated: “They are delighted that these women can now come to Scotland and complete their education.”
Under the Taliban’s rule in Afghanistan, girls above the sixth grade have been deprived of education, and in the latest decree issued by the group in Kandahar province, girls over ten years old were also banned from attending school.
