RASC News Agency: Foreign Ministers of 12 countries, in a joint statement, have declared that the human rights situation in Afghanistan is the most dire and horrifying globally, and the Taliban are accountable for it. The foreign ministers of Albania, Andorra, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, France, Germany, Kosovo, Liechtenstein, Mongolia, the Netherlands, and Romania issued this statement on Saturday, Feb 17, on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference.
They regard the continuous violation of women’s and girls’ rights in Afghanistan under Taliban rule as deeply concerning and demand that the Taliban cease systematic sexual harassment, which could be perceived as a crime against humanity. According to the released statement, the Taliban have made no progress in supporting human rights, especially the fundamental rights of women and girls; instead, they have regressed in this regard.
In this joint statement, the Taliban are held accountable for one of the most dire and horrifying human rights situations worldwide. The foreign ministers of the 12 countries stated in this joint statement that the exclusion of half of Afghanistan’s population from public life and political decision-making by the Taliban jeopardizes the future of Afghanistan.
They demanded that the Taliban fully comply with international laws, especially human rights laws, and protect the fundamental rights of all Afghanistani citizens, including ethnic and religious minorities. They also called for the repeal of all decisions made by the Taliban that restrict the basic rights of women and girls.
