RASC News Agency: The executive board of the World Bank has introduced a new aid strategy for Afghanistan, designed to restrict Taliban oversight of the funding, allocating $300 million to the nation. As reported by Reuters, citing the bank, the World Bank’s executive board addressed this matter on Thursday, February 15th.
The report indicates that the executive board intends to disburse close to $300 million from the International Development Association fund for impoverished countries to Afghanistan via international relief organizations, implementing this novel approach. The World Bank affirmed that the aid resources, operating under the “3.0” framework, must remain beyond the Taliban’s sphere of influence and access.
This sum will be accessible to relief organizations over the next 15 months (until June 2025), contingent upon approval by the bank’s executive board. This assistance aims to bolster women’s livelihoods and provide essential services such as food, water, healthcare, and education. It is noteworthy that this marks the inaugural cash assistance initiative from the World Bank being disbursed to Afghanistan under Taliban rule.
In the wake of the Taliban’s assumption of power in the country, numerous relief organizations have curtailed their assistance to Afghanistan due to apprehensions regarding Taliban control.
