RASC News Agency: Rina Amiri, the US Special Envoy for Women’s Affairs and Human Rights in Afghanistan, has asserted that the Taliban’s extremist policies have precipitated a healthcare crisis in Afghanistan. She articulated these remarks yesterday, Feb 12, commemorating World Women in Science Day, via her social media platform X.
According to Amiri, Afghanistan grapples with a scarcity of nurses and doctors. She emphasized that on the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, Afghanistani women and girls should be reminded of their deprivation of the right to contribute to their country as doctors, engineers, scientists, and in other professions. The US Special Representative further elaborated, stating, “Afghanistan, under the Taliban’s regime, confronts a dearth of medical professionals, and the healthcare crisis is a consequence of these extremist policies.”
Rina Amiri made these assertions as the Taliban dismisses the healthcare crisis under their governance, asserting that since their assumption of power in Afghanistan, over 300 clinics and hospitals have been established nationwide. However, notwithstanding the Taliban’s assertions, human rights watchdogs have previously documented a notable decline in foreign aid and reported instances of Taliban abuse, placing the lives and well-being of millions of Afghanistanis at risk.
