RASC News Agency: The World Food Programme has announced that over half a million women in Afghanistan have received assistance from the organization during the past calendar year. According to a message released by the World Food Programme on Wednesday, Feb 7, on the X social media platform, this aid has been directed towards promoting women’s self-sufficiency in Afghanistan.
While the Taliban tightens the workspace for women day by day, the organization has supported women in acquiring new skills for income generation. This situation arises as suppressive constraints have been imposed against women and girls during the Taliban’s rule over the country for over two years, depriving them of their rights to education, work, and freedom of movement. In recent weeks, in some provinces, the Taliban have detained and taken away young women and girls due to their failure to observe the hijab required by the group.
The Taliban’s actions against young women and girls have triggered widespread reactions, with critics denouncing it as abduction and emphasizing that the detention process should follow a specific legal procedure. It is noteworthy that the United Nations, in its report on this matter, declared that women and girls from specific ethnicities and provinces have been detained by the Taliban under the pretext of not wearing the hijab.
