RASC News Agency: The Taliban announced a meeting between the UN Special Coordinator for Afghanistan, Mr. Feridun Sinirlioglu, and the group’s Foreign Minister, Amir Khan Muttaqi, in Kabul.

According to a statement released by Abdul Qahar Balkhi, spokesperson for the Taliban’s Foreign Ministry, on social media, both sides discussed the upcoming UN-hosted conference on Afghanistan in Doha. Balkhi noted Muttaqi’s acknowledgment of recent regional meetings in Kabul and the accreditation of the Taliban’s ambassador to China as a “promising diplomatic advancement.”

The Taliban’s Foreign Minister reiterated the group’s opposition to the appointment of a UN special representative under Resolution 2721. This comes as he previously urged the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) to provide further clarification regarding the Doha conference during his meeting with the head of the UN’s Afghanistan office.

The Doha conference, organized by the UN on Afghanistan, is scheduled for February 18th and 19th, and the Taliban has been invited to participate. Earlier, Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid stated that the group’s delegation’s participation in the Doha conference depends on the agenda of the meeting.
