RASC News Agency: According to reputable sources within the Taliban group in Badakhshan province, Qari Wasil, their erstwhile security commander, has faced dismissal amid accusations of engaging in drug trafficking and misappropriation of government resources. The governor’s office of the Taliban group in Badakhshan province officially confirmed this information on Tuesday, December 26th. The decision to oust Qari Wasil from his position transpired in the wake of recent tensions between him and the governor. Moreover, the dismissal followed the arrest of Qari Wasil’s eldest son, along with three others, on charges of smuggling 50 kilograms of marijuana.

In response to these unfolding events, the Taliban group issued a communique on December 21st, appointing Mullah Azizullah Omar as the new security commander in Badakhshan province, thereby supplanting Qari Wasil. It is noteworthy that Qari Wasil enjoyed the support of Fasihuddin Fitrat, the head of the army staff of the Taliban group. This incident raises poignant questions regarding the sincerity of the Taliban’s commitment to combatting drug cultivation and trafficking, given their consistent claims of actively addressing these issues since assuming control of the country. Reports indicate the involvement of some officials within the group in such illicit activities themselves.

Beyond the allegations related to drug activities, there have been reports of additional criminal transgressions committed by specific officials within the Taliban group. These include instances of armed robberies and the unwarranted confiscation of property from citizens across various provinces. These incidents underscore the imperative need for accountability and transparency within the group to safeguard the safety and well-being of the Afghanistani citizens.
