RASC News Agency: On Saturday, December 16th, Sebghatullah Sahibi, the Director of Publications for the Taliban Education Department in Ghazni, announced the reopening of “Khawaja Shir Baba High School” in Qarabagh district. He declared that the school has undergone renovations and is now officially open for students. Local authorities of the Taliban faction in Ghazni province have verified the completion of the school’s renovations, ensuring its full readiness for operation.
The Ministry of Education within the Taliban group in Ghazni Province covered the expenses for reconstructing this school, as stated by the Director of Publications for the Education Department. The rebuilding process utilized 1,125,000 Kabuli rupees, the current currency of Afghanistan, and resulted in the establishment of eleven classrooms. Despite previous reports indicating that students at this high school were studying in makeshift tents and substandard classrooms, the renovated school now provides a more suitable learning environment. However, local residents claim that there is still a shortage of standard classrooms in the district.
It is noteworthy that the Taliban group has faced widespread criticism for its hostile stance towards education, especially for girls. Since assuming control of the country, they have shown minimal interest in reconstructing schools or providing educational opportunities. In fact, reports have emerged of the Taliban converting certain school buildings across different provinces into religious institutions, with the aim of propagating their ideology among young individuals.
Despite repeated appeals from foreign nations and international organizations, the Taliban has issued a series of decrees forbidding women and girls from pursuing education beyond the sixth grade. The group remains resolute in their stance, disregarding pleas for change.
