RASC News Agency: The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Aid (OCHA) recently announced that Cyprus has allocated €98,468 to the Afghanistan Humanitarian Fund as part of the ongoing international aid efforts for Afghanistan. OCHA conveyed this on Wednesday, December 13th, via a message on the X social media platform. It was emphasized that since 2021, a total of over €177,000 has been contributed to the Afghanistan Humanitarian Fund. Cyprus’s financial assistance is specifically designated to provide humanitarian aid to the people of Afghanistan. OCHA had previously indicated that a budget of three billion dollars is required to provide humanitarian aid in Afghanistan in 2024.
According to the report released by OCHA, the allocated funding aims to support countries in dire need of humanitarian aid, with Afghanistan ranking among the top five in this category. However, despite this assistance, statistics reveal that over 29 million individuals in Afghanistan urgently require humanitarian aid. With the onset of winter and the deportation of Afghanistani immigrants from Pakistan, the number of vulnerable individuals requiring assistance is expected to rise. Moreover, international aid organizations have previously issued warnings about reducing their activities due to budget cuts and mistreatment of their employees by members of the Taliban group. These factors have further intensified the requirements for humanitarian aid in Afghanistan.
The situation in Afghanistan has been exacerbated by various factors, including restrictions on the work and activities of women, limitations imposed on international institutions, and ongoing crises within the country. These circumstances have led to a significant increase in poverty and unemployment rates, fostering migration and a surge in criminal activities such as armed robberies. The necessity for international aid remains crucial to address these pressing issues and provide support to Afghanistani individuals during these challenging times.
