RASC News Agency: The Deputy Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General in Afghanistan recently convened with Suhail Shaheen, the head of the Taliban group’s political office in Qatar. As disclosed by Shaheen on social media, this meeting transpired in Qatar on Monday, December 11th, and involved a comprehensive discussion on a myriad of significant matters.

Shaheen, in his message, provided additional insights into the topics addressed during the meeting with Markus Potzel. Their discussions encompassed the current situation in Afghanistan, strategies for addressing drug addiction, the alternative poppy cultivation program for farmers, humanitarian aid, and other pertinent issues. It is noteworthy that Shaheen also held discussions with Robert Chatterton Dickson, the Charge d’Affaires of the British Embassy for Afghanistan, last week, focusing on various matters related to Afghanistan, particularly the recently expelled asylum seekers from Pakistan.

Despite the Taliban group’s governance of the country for over two years, it is crucial to emphasize that no nation has officially recognized them, and they still lack international legitimacy. The international community underscores the importance of upholding human rights, particularly those of women and girls, establishing an inclusive government, and respecting the rights of minorities as prerequisites for recognizing the Taliban in Afghanistan. However, reports indicate that the Taliban has consistently rebuffed these demands. Nevertheless, it is noteworthy that, despite the absence of formal recognition, several officials from the Taliban group have traveled to various countries globally to engage in discussions on diverse issues related to Afghanistan.
