RASC News Agency: John Sapko, the special inspector of the United States of America for the reconstruction of Afghanistan, recently made a statement regarding the Taliban’s use of aid provided by the United States. During his appearance on Tuesday, November 14th, Sapko acknowledged the diversion of funds by the Taliban for their own purposes. In a comprehensive eight-page report, this organization highlighted the misappropriation of US aid in Afghanistan, emphasizing that a significant portion of Washington’s assistance is embezzled by Taliban members. Furthermore, Washington intends to increase its aid in the country.

According to Sapko, the Taliban exerts pressure on American partners to employ their own personnel while also seeking contracts with US companies affiliated with the group. He further revealed that the majority of aid and relief projects are implemented in areas where Taliban members reside. Moreover, the distribution of aid is subject to the Taliban’s interference, as they dictate which groups receive assistance. The United States Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR) also noted that the Taliban actively interferes in reconstruction projects facilitated by aid agencies.

In addition, the Taliban has not responded to the SIGAR report. Worth mentioning is that prior to this, SIGAR had reported the Taliban’s indirect involvement in the provision of humanitarian aid within the education sector in Afghanistan. The revelations made by Sapko shed light on the challenges faced in ensuring that aid reaches those in need and is not exploited for personal gain by the Taliban.
