RASC News Agency: Local sources have reported the suicide of a teenage boy in Faryab province, adding to the ever-increasing number of such incidents in Afghanistan. This event took place in Dong Qala village, Garziwan district, on the evening of Saturday, October 28th. Identified as Omid, the 16-year-old boy took his own life by hanging after a heated argument with his father and subsequent threats.
Of notable importance is the fact that the boy’s father had threatened Omid due to his failure to attend work for a single day. Such an occurrence highlights the serious issue of suicide in the country, with instances reported recently in Kandahar and Badakhshan provinces, also attributed to parental admonishment. Since the Taliban’s assumption of power, the prevalence of suicides among women and teenagers in various parts of Afghanistan has reached alarming levels. Experts cite factors such as poverty, unemployment, the overall precarious situation, familial conflicts, and mental health conditions as the primary catalysts behind these suicides.
The escalating number of suicides presents a deeply troubling scenario, compelling to take immediate action to address the underlying causes of these tragedies. This includes extending crucial support to those grappling with poverty and unemployment, bolstering the general conditions in the country, and enhancing access to mental health services. The well-being and mental health of individuals, particularly vulnerable groups like women and teenagers, must be accorded the utmost priority to avert further loss of life.
It is imperative to underscore that since the ascension of the Taliban, Afghanistan has witnessed a significant surge in suicide incidents, arbitrary arrests, and mysterious killings throughout the nation. This alarming trend persists, posing a severe threat to the overall security and stability of the country.
