RASC News Agency: Reports have recently drawn attention to the deplorable conditions endured by Afghanistani refugees in Indonesian refugee camps, shedding light on a heart-wrenching incident involving the tragic suicide of a young Afghanistani individual within the country’s borders.
The sources, comprising Afghanistani refugees who have found refuge in Indonesia, have identified the deceased as Aqil Amini. According to these reports, on the fateful night of October 22, Amini, who hailed from Ghazni’s Jaghouri district and was approximately 27 years old, took his own life by hanging himself in the city of Tanjung Pinang, close to the confinement of the refugee camp.
What exacerbates this narrative is the revelation that Amini, after spending several years residing in these camps, recently turned to psychiatric medication in a quest for solace, owing to the burdensome personal challenges he faced amidst a dishearteningly uncertain future. One must also acknowledge that this tragic occurrence is not an isolated episode, as there have been previous accounts of young Afghanistani refugees in Indonesia resorting to such desperate measures.
Experts acquainted with the prevailing circumstances have vehemently asserted that a combination of this population’s uncertain destiny and the reluctance of European nations to grant asylum has played a pivotal role in the distressing surge of youth suicides. It is of utmost importance to acknowledge that a substantial number of Afghanistani refugees, waiting patiently in Indonesia, have endured a protracted and agonizing wait of more than a decade for their asylum cases to be addressed by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
