RASC News Agency: According to international news agencies, the National Audit Office’s recent report on the Homes for Ukraine scheme in the UK highlights the complex circumstances faced by a significant number of Ukrainian participants. The report reveals that a proportion of these individuals are currently experiencing homelessness or are at risk of becoming homeless.
Specifically, the report focuses on the situation in England, where 4,890 households, accounting for approximately 8% of the Ukrainian arrivals, have been identified as homeless or on the brink of losing their homes according to assessments conducted by local authorities. However, it is crucial to note that data from around one-third of local authorities was not available, suggesting that the actual number of affected households may be even higher. Moreover, the report warns that the risk of homelessness among this population is projected to continue rising in the near future.
Despite the absence of detailed figures on the exact number of Ukrainians who have experienced homelessness, the report acknowledges the efforts undertaken by local authorities in mitigating the issue. These efforts include revising sponsorship arrangements and facilitating access to rental accommodations for those affected. Furthermore, temporary housing options have been implemented to provide immediate relief to individuals in urgent need.
The report’s findings emphasize the challenges faced by the Ukrainian community who participated in the Homes for Ukraine scheme. And urges that With the risk of homelessness anticipated to persistently increase, it is crucial that relevant authorities promptly address this urgent issue and provide comprehensive support to ensure the well-being and stability of those impacted. This should involve a collaborative effort between government agencies, local authorities, and community organizations to provide adequate housing solutions and tailored support services to the affected individuals and households. By doing so, the aim is to alleviate the plight of the Ukrainian community and help them establish stable and secure lives in the UK.
