RASC News Agency: Reports from Herat Province confirm that the morning of Sunday, October 15, witnessed a seismic event of significant magnitude that once again shook the region along with adjacent areas in western Afghanistan. According to the United States Geological Survey, this earthquake registered a magnitude of 6.3 and impacted various parts of Herat Province. The epicenter of this seismic activity was located in the northwestern regions of Herat Province, as reported by the aforementioned organization.
At present, there is limited information available regarding the extent of the damage caused by this recent earthquake. Additionally, the US Geological Survey has notified that a subsequent aftershock measuring 5.5 in magnitude occurred within the same province. Local sources have reported that a substantial earthquake was felt in the central areas of Herat Province at approximately eight o’clock in the morning.
It is noteworthy that multiple earthquakes have rattled western Afghanistan, particularly Herat Province, over the past week. The initial earthquake, which occurred on Saturday, October 7, originated in the Zindajan and Karukh districts of Herat Province and resulted in the loss of numerous lives. The magnitude of today’s earthquake is reported to be 6.3, equivalent to the first earthquake in Herat Province on October 7. It has been mentioned that this morning’s earthquake was felt not only in the provinces of Herat, Badghis, Ghor, Faryab, Farah, and Nimroz but also in several provinces in Iran and Turkmenistan.
As a consequence of last Sunday’s earthquake, thousands of individuals have tragically lost their lives or sustained injuries, while thousands more have been forcibly displaced, leaving them in dire circumstances without access to basic amenities.
