RASC News Agency: reported that Zahra Joya, the manager of “Rokhshana” media, was recognized for her outstanding work and dedication in the field of journalism, despite the challenges she faced as a female journalist in Afghanistan. Alongside other journalists from diverse countries including Cuba, Belarus, North America, and Palestine, Ms. Joya was granted the prestigious Journalist of the Year Award at the annual ceremony organized by the World Forum of Young Leaders.

During the ceremony held in Belfast, Northern Ireland, on October 5th, Mrs. Joya shed light on the difficulties encountered by female journalists in Afghanistan, where they operate under a repressive and misogynistic regime. The Journalist of the Year Award acknowledges the exceptional performance and influence of journalists from different nations in advancing the field of journalism.

It is worth mentioning that Ms. Joya’s contributions to journalism have been previously recognized, as she was named one of the twelve Women of the Year by Time magazine. The World Forum of Young Leaders also bestowed the Journalist of the Year Award to Lutfullah Najafizada, the manager of “Amo” TV from Afghanistan, last year.

This international accolade bestowed upon Ms. Joya is especially remarkable considering the challenging circumstances in which she operates in Afghanistan. The Taliban’s control in the country has led to the deprivation of basic rights for women and imposed severe restrictions upon their lives and work. Under the Taliban’s regime, Afghanistani women and girls have faced limited access to education, with universities and schools being forcefully closed. Nevertheless, it is noteworthy that despite such obstacles, Afghanistani girls have continued to exemplify excellence and have been recognized and honored with international awards.
