RASC News Agency: Taliban Minister of Higher Education says no foreign orders are accepted in education sector after visiting Pul-e- Khumri city in Baghlan Province.
Speaking to Baghlan University professors and students on Saturday, 30 September, he said that young people should also be introduced to “religion and Islamic education”.
Taliban Minister for Higher Education Nida Muhammad Nadeem visited Baghlan province to “review the condition of education” and stressed the need to expand the teaching of “Islamic sciences”.
He said, “The society and people need a comprehensive understanding of Islamic science and culture, as well as modern sciences,” and added, “We are committed to providing the foundation for Islamic science.”
This official from the Taliban group criticized the previous government’s education curriculum. He said that under the Taliban regime, the education curriculum in Afghanistan was “reformed” and made available to students.
He did not elaborate on how the curriculum would be changed; however, he stressed that no foreign orders will be accepted for education in Afghanistan.
On its part, the Ministry of Higher Education announced that the Taliban group had decided to establish a Master’s and Doctorate degree program in Afghanistan universities and that it would be implemented “soon”.
This Taliban group official promised the students to build research centers, equip and provide modern laboratory equipment, and expand the university’s “Islamic sciences.”
This is in spite of the fact that when the Taliban took power in Afghanistan, they prohibited girls from going to school after the 6th grade and prohibited girls from attending universities. The international community has called on the Taliban to allow girls to go to school.
However, education professionals and university professors worry that the Taliban have transformed the country’s universities into religious schools of thought and training camps for the group’s armed forces.
