RASC News Agency: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has announced the allocation of 400 million dollars in grants for the people of Afghanistan.

The announcement of the Asian Development Bank states that this amount of aid will be spent through the United Nations to address emergency needs in the food security and health sector.

According to the announcement, $100 million will be provided to the World Food Program (WFP) and will enable the program to provide critical food assistance to more than 1.32 million, with priority given to women heads of households and highly vulnerable groups.

In addition, the $100 million grant will enable the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) to support the agricultural production of more than 309,000 families.

According to the Asian Development Bank, 200 million dollars will be provided to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and this fund will provide health services in 10 provinces of Afghanistan, covering about 7.5 million people.

The Asian Development Bank added that this project, which is implemented in close coordination with the United Nations, the World Bank and other partners, will contribute to the sustainable efforts of the international community to support the people of Afghanistan and prevent the country from falling into complete poverty.

This bank has pointed out that Afghanistan is facing an unprecedented humanitarian crisis and this crisis is accompanied by climate change and severe droughts, floods and earthquakes.

The Asian Development Bank has added that it is estimated that 85 percent of Afghanistan’s population lives below the poverty line.

According to the bank, women and children are disproportionately affected by this crisis, as many female-headed households suffer from food shortages and reduced access to services due to the Taliban’s restrictions.

Meanwhile, humanitarian operations to help the needy in Afghanistan are facing a lack of funds.

Earlier, Cindy McCain, the executive director of the World Food Program, which distributes most of the food aid in Afghanistan, said that she would have to leave Afghanistan if she could not get the necessary funding.

She added that the World Food Program in Afghanistan “does not have enough money to get through the month of October.”

McCain said: “Until we can create a budget for Afghanistan, we have to leave there completely.”
