RASC News Agency: Tom West, the special representative of the United States of America for Afghanistan affairs, said that the presence and activity of the ISIS group in Afghanistan under the control of the Taliban group is the biggest concern of the United States.
The special representative of the United States of America for Afghanistan affairs said on Tuesday, September 12 in a speech at the Stimson think tank that the Taliban group has killed eight commanders of the ISIS group in different parts of Afghanistan.
In this speech, he emphasized on the fight against ISIS in Afghanistan.
Pointing out that the United States is monitoring the situation in the region; he added that the attacks of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) have increased significantly in Pakistan.
The US special representative for Afghanistan added that Afghanistan is currently facing problems such as the economic crisis and human rights violations in addition to the threat of ISIS, and more than 97 percent of the country’s population lives in poverty.
Meanwhile, the United Nations recently warned that ISIS aims to “challenge the Taliban group by launching a war that is consistent with ISIS’ concept of global jihad.”
This report said that ISIS fighters have most of the remote areas of Kunar, Nangarhar and possibly Nuristan provinces of Afghanistan.
The organization added that the smaller and secret cells of ISIS are also located in the northern and northeastern provinces, including Badakhshan, Takhar, Jawzjan, Kunduz and Faryab.
Recent US military assessments have also warned that Al-Qaeda and ISIS have been increasing their movements in Afghanistan since the Taliban took control of Afghanistan, and this situation could pose a significant threat beyond Afghanistan’s borders.
