RASC News Agency: “International Federation of Journalists” has condemned the repression of journalists in Afghanistan under the administration of the Taliban group and has demanded the immediate release of all imprisoned media workers.
This federation said that the cases of arresting journalists in Afghanistan have increased.
The International Federation of Journalists on Tuesday, September 5 also announced the release of 9 journalists from the Taliban prison in the last week.
Habibullah Sarab, a journalist in Paktia, and Parwiz Sargand, a journalist in Kunar, were released from the custody of the Taliban on September 2.
According to the officials of this federation, the Taliban group said that the reason for arresting these journalists was that they were working with foreign media.
In addition to that, Mahboob Hakimi, a journalist in Zabul and a representative of the National Union of Afghanistan Journalists, was also released from the prison of the Taliban group.
Not long ago, four media workers who were arrested for working with the media outside the country were released from the prison of the Taliban group.
While welcoming the release of the journalists, this federation has asked the Taliban group to follow up the cases related to the work of the media through the “Media Complaints and Violations Commission”.
The International Federation of Journalists says that following the re-takeover of Afghanistan by the Taliban on August 15, 2021, media activity in the country has been significantly limited.
With the dominance of the Taliban group and the downfall of many media outlets, journalists have been subjected to arbitrary arrest and faced with poverty.
On the other hand, before this, a number of journalists and media workers in Balkh province complained about the lack of access to information and said that they were worried about their safety under the rule of the Taliban group.
These journalists added that the government offices under the control of the Taliban group are not ready to provide correct and timely information to journalists.
